Analyze your golf swing with your phone, no sensors

Birdia product page (in beta) · reviewed 12 Oct 2026

With Birdia (our product, in beta) your phone camera is enough: film your swing face-on or down the line and pose is computed on the phone itself, with no sensors or radar. Today it measures tempo, sway and early extension; other faults are suggested as likely causes from a cited knowledge base of 47 faults. The video never leaves your phone unless you share it.

What Birdia does for this

From the encyclopedia: one fault and its drill

Sway (lateral slide in the backswing)

Measured by Birdia's camera (face-on view)
What it looks like
Face-on: the trail hip slides laterally outside the trail foot during the backswing instead of rotating; the head travels several centimeters to the right.
What it does to the ball
Unpredictable low point: alternating fat and thin shots, because getting back to the ball demands a reverse slide that is very hard to time.
How to fix it
Turn the trail hip back behind you as if coiling, with pressure on the inside of the trail foot and never spilling outside it

Drill: The hip post

Goal
Swap the sway for pure rotation
How to do it
Stick an alignment rod in the ground (or use your bag) brushing the outside of your trail hip. Make backswings turning without pushing the rod: the hip rotates, it doesn't slide. Then hit balls at 70% without touching the post.

Limits (what Birdia doesn't do)

A single camera sees in 2D and depends on the filming angle. Birdia does not measure clubface, club path or clubhead speed: it only estimates hand speed. Validated 3D metrics are still in development. If it can't see your body clearly, it won't give you a fault.

Frequently asked questions

What can an app measure with just a phone camera?

Body geometry, frame by frame: swing phases, tempo, hip and head movement, and posture. In Birdia that currently means tempo, sway (face-on), early extension (down the line), weight in the chip and stillness on short putts. Clubface, path, spin and ball speed need a launch monitor.

Where should I put my phone to film my swing?

On a tripod at hand height (roughly hip height), about 3-4 metres away, with your whole body in frame from head to feet. Face-on, or down the line behind you. If the setup isn't right, Birdia tells you before it analyzes.

Are my videos uploaded to the cloud?

Pose is computed on your phone and the video stays there unless you share it. Only the minimum needed for coaching goes to the cloud, encrypted and isolated per user.

How much does Birdia cost?

There is a free plan. Premium costs €14.99/month or €99/year and Pro-IA €29.99/month, VAT included. Payment happens only inside the app, through the App Store or Google Play. Birdia is in beta.
