A golf app for beginners

Birdia product page (in beta) · reviewed 12 Oct 2026

For a beginner, what helps is fixing your setup and working on one thing at a time. Birdia (our product, in beta) corrects your knees, posture and stance out loud before you hit, explains each fault with its source and gives you one specific drill. If you don't know why a shot went wrong, you start from what the ball did. There's a free plan.

What Birdia does for this

From the encyclopedia: one fault and its drill

Fat contact

Birdia doesn't measure it with the camera: it suggests it as a likely cause according to the doctrine
What it looks like
The ground contact or the divot starts behind the ball; on video, the low point of the arc falls before the ball.
What it does to the ball
The ground steals the energy: a huge loss of distance and a short ball with no predictable spin.
How to fix it
Shift the pressure to your lead foot BEFORE the club comes down: the divot must start at the ball or after it

Drill: The chalk line

Goal
Move the low point in front of the ball
How to do it
Draw a line on the ground perpendicular to the target and make practice swings trying to have the ground contact start right at the line or beyond it, never before. Once you repeat it 5 times in a row, put balls on the line and repeat.

Limits (what Birdia doesn't do)

Birdia doesn't replace a teaching pro: if you're starting from zero, a few lessons will save you from bad habits. It also has no on-course GPS or scorecard, and it is in beta.

Frequently asked questions

Is a swing app useful if I'm just starting?

Yes, if it keeps you on the basics: setup, contact and one correction at a time. An app that throws twenty numbers at you confuses more than it helps. If you're starting from zero, pair it with a few lessons from a pro.

What should a beginner fix first?

Usually the setup (grip, posture, alignment and ball position) and contact: fat and thin shots, which cost the most strokes early on. Birdia corrects your posture and stance out loud before you hit and, if you hit it fat, takes you to the likely causes and a drill like "The chalk line".

Can I use Birdia for free?

Yes, there is a free plan. Premium costs €14.99/month or €99/year and Pro-IA €29.99/month, VAT included, with payment only inside the app (App Store or Google Play). Birdia is in beta.
