What casting actually is
On the downswing, the angle between the club and your lead forearm (the "lag") should hold until very close to the ball and release only in the final stretch. Casting is the opposite: you throw that angle away the instant you start the transition, with your hands still around chest height. The result is a club that arrives at impact completely "spent."
