Where GolfFix wins
- More faults detected automatically. GolfFix says it detects 45+, spread across 8 swing phases, each scored from 0 to 100. Birdia currently measures 5 with the camera (tempo, sway, early extension, weight in the chip and timid short putts); the rest of its 47-fault knowledge base is suggested as a likely cause, not measured.
- An illustration for every fault. Each fault comes with a drawing of the right position next to the wrong one, which you get at a glance.
- Track record. Around since 2020, it reports 1.5 million+ downloads and holds a 4.8 from 810 ratings on the US App Store. Birdia is in beta.
- Comparing with pros. You pick from 6-7 reference swings and see them overlaid or side by side with yours, synced by phase.
- More languages (10) and a global community with automatic translation.
Where Birdia wins
- From ball flight to cause. In "What is your ball doing?" you pick from 12 problems (slice, hook, push, pull, short, high, fat, thin, heel, toe, chip and putt) and see the likely causes in order, each with its drill. GolfFix has something similar in its paid Shot Fix Lesson, and gives each cause an influence percentage without explaining how it is calculated.
- Cited sources. Every Birdia fault and drill comes from a 47-fault knowledge base with its source: Hogan, Leadbetter, Pelz, Utley, TrackMan, TPI, Tour Tempo… No sources are stated on GolfFix's website or store listing.
- Spoken setup coaching. Before you hit, Birdia checks your knees, posture and stance and gives you one correction. GolfFix beeps when it detects you're at address.
- Short game. Birdia has chip/pitch, putting and bunker modes with their own criteria. GolfFix focuses on the full swing, and some of its reviewers ask for short-game analysis.
- Privacy. With Birdia your video stays on your phone unless you share it; GolfFix's paid plan backs videos up to its cloud.
- Price in Spain: €14.99 a month versus GolfFix's €17.99 on the Spanish App Store. Annual plans are almost level: €99 versus €99.99.
Both start from the same physics. Under TrackMan's ball flight laws, curve comes from where the face points relative to the club path; the difference between the apps is how they take you from that flight back to the cause in your body.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose GolfFix if you want the widest catalogue of automatically detected faults, with illustrations and pro comparisons, in a mature app with a big user base.
- Choose Birdia if you want to know why your ball flies the way it does, with advice that cites its source, setup corrections out loud before you hit, or work on chipping, putting and bunkers.
- Try both. Each has a free plan: film the same swing in both and keep the one that tells you something you can practise tomorrow.
