Where 18Birdies wins
- Everything on the course. GPS, scorecard and stats are its core; by its own count it has 46,000 courses, 10 million users and 120 million rounds logged.
- User base and ratings. A 4.9 from 290,000 ratings, according to its AI Coach page. Birdia is in beta.
- Apple Watch. Birdia has no watch app.
- One subscription. The AI Coach comes inside Premium alongside GPS and stats, with a 7-day trial. If you already pay for 18Birdies on the course, swing analysis costs you nothing extra.
- Swing progress: it shows how your swing trends over time.
Where Birdia wins
- Depth on the swing. Birdia does only this: a 47-fault knowledge base with sources (Hogan, Leadbetter, Pelz, TrackMan, TPI…), each fault with its drill.
- From ball flight to cause. In "What is your ball doing?" you pick from 12 problems (slice, hook, fat, thin, chip, putt…) and see the likely causes in order.
- Setup before you hit. Birdia checks knees, posture and stance and gives you one spoken correction; at the range you run it by voice or with a Bluetooth remote.
- Automatic detection. You don't have to touch the phone on every shot; in 18Birdies you record with a button.
- Short game. Chip/pitch, putting and bunker modes with their own criteria.
- Privacy. With Birdia your video stays on your phone unless you share it; 18Birdies sends it to its servers for analysis.
Neither app measures the ball. A phone camera sees your body; spin, ball speed and face angle at impact are launch-monitor territory.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose 18Birdies if GPS and the scorecard are what you use most on the course and you want swing analysis in the same subscription.
- Choose Birdia if you want to work on your swing in depth at the range: why it breaks down, which drill fixes it and where the advice comes from.
- Use them together. They don't overlap: 18Birdies on the course, Birdia at the range.
