Where the other apps win
Honesty is what makes a comparison useful, so let's start with what Birdia does not do best:
- Sportsbox 3D has real 3D and Birdia does not. Sportsbox reconstructs the body in three dimensions from a 2D video and measures angles a flat read cannot deliver with the same reliability (lateral sway, hip flexion, side bend). If your coach works with 3D numbers, it is the tool. Birdia's 3D is in development, which is why we mark it ◐.
- OnForm wins the coach-student workflow. Its collaborative video — on-screen annotations, voice-over, per-student threads — is why so many academies run on it. If your improvement goes through a human coach working remotely, OnForm is the platform, not an AI app.
- SwingIQ produces detailed per-swing analysis reports; its report-first approach (and its $59.99/mo price) targets golfers who want a dossier rather than day-to-day coaching.
- Swing Coach nails the hands-free range use case: automatic swing detection plus voice feedback, on par with Birdia there.

Where Birdia wins
- Causal diagnosis with sources: it doesn't just say "you slice it", it says why (face open to path, per TrackMan's ball flight laws) and which drill addresses it, citing the source (Hogan, Leadbetter, Pelz, Adam Young…). The coach only recommends from a cited knowledge base of 37 faults and 54 drills — and if measurement confidence is below threshold, it does not report.
- The "did it work?" loop: the app re-measures after the drill and tells you whether you improved. Advice without verification is just an opinion.
- Bunker mode: sand-adapted analysis — the wider stance, the open face of the splash shot and hitting the sand behind the ball change what the analysis should look at, and no other app on the table treats it as a different swing. As far as we know, it is unique to Birdia in 2026.
- Measured chipping, pitching and putting: the camera evaluates the short game with its own criteria (narrow stance and quiet body for chips; stillness and a 2:1 rhythm for putts — honestly: the camera can't see the putter face, and the app says so). No other app in the table does this either.

What an AI can and cannot measure with one camera
This section applies to every app on the table, ours included. With a single 2D camera and pose detection:
What can be measured reliably:
- The swing phases (takeaway, backswing, downswing, finish) and how long each takes.
- The tempo ratio (backswing:downswing — the 3:1 Tour Tempo documented by timing Tour professionals).
- Body positions visible in the camera plane: chest height, apparent knee flex, ball position in the stance.
What cannot be measured (and anyone claiming otherwise should explain how):
- The clubface at impact: face orientation in the milliseconds of impact cannot be resolved by a phone camera at 30-60 fps — and per TrackMan it is the dominant factor in the ball's starting direction. Without radar or a club sensor, any face number is an estimate.
- Ball flight: spin, launch angle and ball speed are radar/photometry territory (TrackMan and friends), not pose-app territory.
- True depth in 2D: anything moving toward or away from the camera is estimated — which is exactly why Sportsbox's 3D adds real value, and why Birdia labels "(est.)" whatever it cannot measure directly with one camera.
An honest app tells you which of its numbers are measurements and which are estimates. That's a good filter when choosing: ask each app where that line sits.
